Olympic gold and silver medalist, Nicola Spirig, made an impressive return to the Triathlon World Championship Series with a fourth place in Hamburg on the weekend.

In a competitive field, Nicola showed leadership and skill to bring the chase pack to the leadership group.

She said: "From the second lap I did a lot of leading work, especially in the technical passages."

"It was a hard ride. After a quick change, I was the first to run. Running was very hard, I had some side stitches at the beginning.

"Cassandre Beaugrand ran one class better, while the others were about my level. After a long hard burst I was able to stay with two competitors and finish fourth.

"This rank is certainly a very positive result in close contact with the world's best."

Nicola has been building her fitness this year after the birth of her second baby last year and following injury earlier this year.

Earlier this year she announced her goal of competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which would make Nicola a five-time Olympian.
