Barbara Riveros wins Gold at South American Games, Bolivia

June 17

Chile's Barbara Riveros has once again demonstrated she is one of South American's most successful triathletes by winning Gold at the South American Games in Bolivia yesterday.

This is Barbara's third win at the South American Games, after claiming first place in 2014 and 2010.

Barbara described the race as “very tough” due to the high altitude in Cochabamba, Bolivia where the race was held, as well as some strong competitors.

“I knew it would be a battle today and it was,” Barbara said.

“I felt the altitude, particularly at the finish line, but I gave it my all and I am over the moon to win gold for my country.”

Barbara will spend a few more days in South America before heading back to Switzerland for training camp in St Moritz as she continues to build for future races.

Early in 2017, Barbara commenced training with world-leading triathlon coach, Brett Sutton, who has produced many Olympic and world-champion triathletes over more than 30 years.

Barbara's goal is to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. However, she is also aiming to defend her title at the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019.
