Finishing the Season in Style

October 15

Wonderful effort from Jenny Schulz placing 2nd at Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote.

We also want to give our thumbs up to the rest of our pro athletes and AG groupers who finished their season in style. In Lanzarote on the 6th of October pro Jenny Schulz (GER; who already raced 3 long-distance this year) finished 2nd in 4:30 behind GB’s Lucy Gossage. Jenny likes to race in the heat much better than the cold and in Lanza she really pulled off a strong race over a strong field. A real step up.

In the far East, over the course of Ironman Taiwan Gerhard De Bruin (RSA; also of our professional squad) delivered a pride performance and brought home the 5th place after a very hard season.
In the same race Andrea Bruhin also finished 5th in her age group. “Still stoked and speechless”, she said in the end. “I never thought I would make it on an Ironman stage!”

In Bahrain Rana had a great sprint race finishing 2nd! We’re building her up for the longer distances and it’s great to see the hard work she puts in paying off.

Finally, over the super choppy Ironman Barcelona (October 6th as well), Jaume Vicens Monserrat of the Triatló Portocolom Herbes Tune (the club in Felanitx, where we held our winter and spring camps) clocked a 10:53 – a personal best for him.
“It was a complicated day because of the state of the sea, the wind and the rain”, says Jaume. “The first wave went straight into my face and took my goggles off! But more than an inconvenient, it was a warning sign that told me to be careful and always give 100%. I had trained very solidly with Joseph, but seven years after my last IM, my performance in the race was unknown.”
Jaume not only scored a best in the long distance, but he also finished in the top 15 of his age group and first of the Spanish in the M54-59. Chapeau! “Joseph worked a worked a miracle!”, Jaume said. “Not even in my wildest dreams I could imagine this performance."
For most athletes the season is done and dusted, but we at Spindler-Performace already start building for next year’s races. It’s time to grind in some 30 x 100 pulls and paddles in the pool …
