ITU World Cup New Plymouth - New Zealand
Five of our ITU Crew hopped across the Tasman this past weekend, lining up at the ITU World Cup in New Plymouth.
Early scares of a cancelled swim were put to rest race morning as Kelly-Ann lead the women's field out of the water. She was soon victim to a manhole cover in the road requiring a stop to fix a dropped chain, moving her back from the 1st to 3rd bike group. While frustrating Kelly-Ann fought the whole race, running up to an 11th place finish.
Barb worked her way into the front group with a huge effort on the first lap of the bike, and continued to force the pace. A solid run saw her move up to 5th but was narrowly out sprinted for 6th.
Andrea was right in the mix all day in the men's race. In the front group out of the swim, bike and run he gave it a shot, in his best race so far. The leaders gradually pulled away in the second half of the run, and while his 8th place was the best for sometime, there is still work to do.
Max and Gaspar both had poor swims. They had poor rides in the second and third groups, and didn’t make much impression on the race, or progress up the positions on the run. Disappointing for both. They can and should do better.

Great job by Sarah who continues to work hard, chipping away at her run speed. A run race at home over 4k showed her continual improvements.
An old favorite from her new home, Jane had a blast at the Nevis to St.Kitts Channel Swim, finishing 2nd over the 4.1k ocean swim and earning her 5th highly coverted Turtle trophy.
