Scorching performances in Scorchio conditions

July 2

The hot weather over Europe this weekend provided for some even hotter performances, with Animis athletes burning up the race courses and setting fire to PBs.

Monica McDowell competed in Xterra Switzerland on Saturday. Despite not doing as much mountain biking as she had hoped, Monica felt good (apart a slight detour through stinging nettles) throughout, Monica felt comfortable in the swim and the best she has felt running for ages. Monica came third overall in her age group!

Ali Brown was fending off bats, vampires and duathletes at the ETU Sprint Championships in Translyvania, Romania this weekend. Ali went our hard from the gun, taking the race to his competitors and throwing caution to the wind. Ali set off with the front pack but settled to hold just a little back, attacked the bike and then held on for the run, pushing the pain aside. Ali came 4th in this age group narrowly missing a medal but showing huge guts and will continue to improve.

Dave Edwards took part in the Coast to Coast cycle sportive from the Lake District to Whitby. In what was the hottest day of the year for the UK, Dave grasped the difficult conditions and rolling terrain to cross the line fulfilled but absolutely spent. Well done Dave.

Angela Thompson and Oliver took part in the Humber Bridge Half event. Oliver completed the two mile fun run before mum Angela went off for the half marathon. In hot and windy conditions on the former longest single suspension bridge in the World, Anglea pushed herself to her maximum and finished all smiles at the line.

Adeline, Rick and Tracy towed the start line at the Normanby 10k. Adeline was on for a PB until the slope towards the end, which just sapped enough life out of her legs to just miss a PB. Rick continues his steady build back to fitness with a fun run in the sun. Tracy Vickers set a terrific 10 second PB and also finished the Barnardos iTri challenge, swimming 6 miles, biking 130 miles and running 35 miles in June. Before then she hadn’t been on a bike for 20 years. Tracy is now readying herself for her first Triathlon at Axholme North!
